Brave Tween Labs

Brave Labs is designed to be a space where girls can show up as they are, feel comfortable being themselves, and grow along the way. Through a mix of conversation, creativity, and hands-on experiences, participants explore topics like friendships, confidence, and gratitude in a way that feels natural and relatable.

Each lab intentionally weaves together elements of creativity, nature, and mindfulness—helping girls build practical tools for navigating real-life situations, especially as they head into the school year. At its core, Brave Labs is about creating a supportive environment where participants feel seen, heard, and empowered to trust themselves and their voice.

Brave Tween Labs Overview

Adult

About Me
Hi, I’m Jonna. I’m a therapist and have spent over 20 years in this work, with a large part of my early career focused on teens and families. These days, I primarily work with adults in my private practice, using approaches like EMDR and Brainspotting—but I’ve always had a strong connection to this age group and genuinely enjoy working with girls during this stage of life.

I also run a small creative business with my husband, where we focus on one-room redesigns and installations. It’s my creative outlet (and, according to my husband, helps keep us from constantly remodeling our own home).

I’m a mom of two daughters, one is my bonus daughter who is now 20 (pictured), and the other is heading into 5th grade, so I understand both how meaningful and how challenging the tween years can be, for kids and parents alike.

Brave Labs is really a blend of all of these pieces—therapeutic experience, creativity, and real-life perspective, coming together to create a space where girls can build confidence, connection, and tools they can carry with them.

LAB 1: Junk Journaling + Goal Setting

We’ll kick things off with creativity and connection through junk journaling—no experience needed, all supplies provided. This session is about helping each tween settle in, get to know one another, and start building their personal “toolkit” for the summer.

We’ll begin with introductions and a light snack, then guide participants through setting summer goals through a guided activity.

Through journaling and conversation, we’ll begin building confidence, self-awareness, and a sense of belonging in a relaxed, supportive space. Every session will close with a mindfulness exercise, helping participants practice and build tools they can carry with them throughout the summer (and life).

JUNE

LAB 2: Create your own Zen Rolls + Confidence + Friendships

In this session, participants will create their own “Zell rolls” using a variety of essential oil scents—building a personalized, portable tool they can use for grounding and emotional support. This hands-on activity continues to expand their resource toolkit in a creative and meaningful way.

We’ll focus on confidence and friendship, helping tweens identify their strengths and explore what healthy, supportive relationships look like. Through guided discussion and activities, they’ll practice ways to build connection, set boundaries, and navigate friendships with more clarity and self-trust.

Each session ends with a mindfulness exercise, reinforcing skills and helping participants build tools they can carry with them throughout the summer.

JULY

Date: Sunday, June 21st, 2026

Location: Willow River State Park (ability to arrange pickup at Town of Hudson City Hall about one mile south)

7th grade girls (fall 2026): 5:00-6:30pm

8th grade girls (fall 2026): 7:00-8:30pm

LAB 3: Movement + Regulation (Yoga + Waterfall Hike)

This session brings us outdoors for movement, reflection, and connection. Participants will engage in a guided yoga practice (bring your own mat, extras available if needed), followed by a hike to the waterfall at Willow River State Park.

Throughout the experience, we’ll naturally weave in education around emotional regulation—helping tweens understand how their bodies and emotions are connected, and how to “control the controllables” through breath, movement, and awareness. This lab emphasizes slowing down, tuning in, and practicing simple, effective tools they can use in real-life moments.

August

Date: Sunday, August 16th, 2026

7th grade girls (fall 2026): 5:00-6:30pm

8th grade girls (fall 2026): 7:00-8:30pm

LAB 4: Vision Board + Empowerment

Our final lab is centered on reflection, intention, and stepping into the next school year with clarity and confidence. Participants will create their own vision boards, bringing together what they’ve learned about themselves and what they want to carry forward.

We’ll revisit key themes from previous labs, confidence, friendship, emotional regulation, and personal strengths, helping solidify the tools and insights they’ve built throughout the summer.

This session will also include a fun surprise, designed to celebrate their growth and ensure they leave feeling empowered, connected, and ready for the year ahead.
